Brief
The brief for this project was to work with the Environment Agency to seek new ideas to educate the public on the value of water. My take on this project was to write, design and make an educational sticker book for children.
The Solution
Winnie the Water Saver is a children's sticker book, designed as part of a resource pack for children to be used alongside a reward chart and video animation over half term. The kids would be shown an introductory animation in class, and then be given their reward chart and sticker book to take home for half term. Each time they fill out their reward chart, they can use a sticker from the sticker book to complete the illustration in their story.
The sticker book I created combines fun, bold typography alongside interactive illustrations to engage children while they are educated on the value of water.
Design Process
My design process for this project included mood boarding to gather ideas for the look and feel of the project, character analysis and character development, storyboarding and then finally; making. During the making phase of the project I ran into some issues with printing and die-cutting the sticker sheet so had to improvise by using a craft knife and tracing the outline of the stickers by hand.
Typography and Illustration
I wanted to explore breaking typographic rules to make the reading experience more dynamic and entertaining for the reader whether they are a child or a parent. The typeface I used throughout the book is x and was chosen use to it's rough, handwritten feel. I chose a flat illustration style for the character and in most illustrations, attempted to use basic shapes such as circles, rectangles and squares to build up the image. I used bright, fun colours throughout to make the story more engaging for the target audience.

Project Takeaways
I found this project a great opportunity to practice pitching my ideas to a real client. At the beginning of the project, I pitched my initial ideas over Teams to the client, and at the end of the project, I pitched the final book dummy to the client, project tutors and class.
I enjoyed being able to explore an area of design I had no prior experience with and found developing Winnie's character really enjoyable. If I were to revisit the project again, I would further develop my illustration style to make the illustrations a little less flat, and a little more engaging.
